Ride Into the Days of Yesteryear…

Come join Bishop Pack Outfittters as we herd our horses and mules to and from their winter pastures. The trip is three and one-half days long and covers some of the most spectacular country you’ll ever ride!

Every spring we round up our stock from the pastures of Round Valley at the foot of Mount Tom, located fifteen miles north of Bishop, California. This magnificent 10,000-foot peak is part of the Eastern Sierra range. We’ll drive the herd into the Sierra mountains to North Lake—our summer packing headquarters—at an elevation of 9,500 feet. Come fall, join us again as we drive the herd through the glorious colors of autumn back to their winter pastures in Round Valley.

A Typical Day On The Range…

Roll out of your bedroll to a steaming-hot cup of coffee “cowboy style” and a breakfast prepared by our camp cooks (they like to be called “camp chefs”). After a hearty meal, we’ll saddle up to start the day’s drive. Some folks will ride point, others flank or drag, whichever is most comfortable for you and your mount.

Lunch will be dined out on the trail and ice-cold beverages will appear out of nowhere to help wash down the morning’s dust (if we can be found!).

After securing the herd at our Buttermilk Hills camp nestled in the foothills of the majestic High Sierra mountains, we’ll relax, hone in our roping skills on the practice steer, take a quiet walk to a vista point, or share the day’s adventures with a new-found friend while munching on appetizers—this time is yours!

As Evening Falls…
The dinner bell has us enjoying supper under a starry sky around a warming campfire. Enjoy cowboy (and cowgirl!) poetry or perhaps a song or two by our local entertainers. Bring along your talents and share them. It doesn’t get much better than this!
Another Awesome Day in the Saddle

On the second day we’ll rest the main herd and take time to enjoy the High Sierra scenery. Some folks will want to saddle up and ride to beautiful Horton Lakes in a canyon four hours from camp at 10,000-foot elevation—bring your fishing pole! The view from the top has brought tears to the eyes of many and saddle sores to others. Or maybe a few-hour spin around the countryside is just right. There’s lots of riding to be had.

The last day of the drive has us swinging ropes and shouting orders to one another with authority. As we bring the herd on home, hearty appetizers and our “memorable cowpoke” ceremony awaits the survivors, along with a thank-you gift to you from us!

We look forward to a good time filled with new friends and long-lasting memories.
